Weekend Round Up (25-26th June)

On a weekend where most of the attention was on the British Championships, where highlights included a Welsh 100m Record from Hannah Brier (Swansea), Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff) storming away with the 100m victory in a time of 9.90s and Adele Nicoll (Birchfield) showing she is one to watch in Birmingham later this year with a shot put victory, here is a round up of the rest of the best!

SSAFA 5km, Bute Park, Cardiff

Recently crowned Welsh 1,500m champion, Remi Adebiyi (Newport) won the 5km event in a time of 14:29, ahead of Matthew Edwards (Cardiff) who crossed the line just inches ahead of Jonathan Butler (Swansea) as they both recorded times of 14:40.

Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd) set a new personal best of 16:27 as she was the first female home, with Kate Roberts (Swansea) in second in a time of 17:18 and Millie Gold (Cardiff) third in a time of 17:21.

International Under 18 Mountain Running Cup

The International Under 18 Mountain Running Cup was held in Saluzzo, Italy, with 11 different nations taking part. This years event was an uphill/downhill course held over two loops covering a total of 4350m.

Welsh Athletics took a strong team of 4 men and 4 women over to Italy to take part in the event. In the men’s event, it was Aled Breeze (Maldwyn) who was home first for Wales, finishing in 17th place in a time of 17:22. Next home and in 21st place was Noa Vaughan (Eryri) less than 15 seconds behind, running a time of 17:36. Finlay Cullen (Maldwyn) was 39th in a time of 19:01, whilst Callum Morgan (Maldwyn) ran a time of 19:37 to place 41st over all.

In the women’s event, Maddison Griffiths (Maldwyn) was the first Welsh athlete to finish, in a time of 20:53 and in 24th place. Caitlin Jones (Aberdare Valley) finished in 32nd place and a time of 21:30, with Mali Macduff (Cardiff Archers) in 36th in a time of 22:07. Isabelle Shaw (Menai) finished just behind in 22:25 and 38th place.
