Welsh Road Relays

On a beautiful day in Pembrey, Wales’s top athletics teams went head to head in battle to be crowned Welsh Champions.

In the U17 Girl’s race, where teams of three athletes all ran over the 3,200m, it was Cardiff Archers that came out on top, with a finishing time of 34:05, ahead of Maldwyn Harriers who were close behind in 34:19 and the North Wales team Menai, who made the long trip worth their time, finishing third in a total time of 34:58.

Contributing to the third place finish for Menai, was Beca Half Bown, who recorded the fastest time of the day by nearly 30 seconds, running 10:27 for the 3,200m course. Mackenzie McCourt of Maldwyn Harriers was the second fastest of the day, breaking 11 minutes, with a time of 10:54, with Mali Macduff (Cardiff) completing the top three in a time of 11:05.

In the U17 Boy’s race, also competing 3 legs of the 3,200m course, Carmarthen & District Harriers dominated the team event, taking victory by over half a minute in a total time of 28:36. Matching the girls achievement, Maldwyn Harriers also finished in second, in a time of 29:13. Rounding out the podium was Newport Harriers, who finished close behind in 29:22.

It was Finlay Cullen of Maldwyn Harriers who recorded the fastest time of the day, just outside of 10 minutes, with a time 10:05. Finlay just edged out Miguel Jenkins of Menai who was next fastest with a time of 10:06, whilst Henry Dawes recorded the third quickest time of the day, with 10:08.

Swansea Harriers won the U15 Girl’s race, with a total time of. 32:21. Cardiff was next across the line in a time of 32:49. Showing their depth, Cardiff B team where in third in a time of 35:19.

The fastest times of the day were recorded by Millie Gold (Cardiff) in 10:17, and Libby Hale (Swansea) in 10:25.

In the U15 Boy’s race, Cardiff went one better than their female counterparts, taking victory in a time of 30:37, whilst Newport Harriers were second in 30:46 and Cardiff B team third in 31:40.

The fastest legs of the day were recorded by George Cook (Cardiff) in 10:04, Garyn Tough (Aberdare) in 10:05 and Tom Gilbert (Newport) in 10:21.

At the time of reporting, the Senior Men's and Women's were not available, these will be updated once they are. 


Llanelli Half Marathon

The M&D Care Llanelli Half Marathon returned with a bang today! With over 1,000 participants signed up, the runners went all-out to beat their previous record. Everyone seemed to be running on a high this year with hundreds managing to achieve their personal bests. Participants took to the route on closed roads, in what was considered perfect running conditions with little to no wind.

Tash Smith, Race Director said:

“It was wonderful seeing everyone take part in the 2022 edition of the Llanelli Half Marathon. It’s the runners and dedicated volunteers who come together to make events like ours so special and today was a testament to what the Llanelli half is all about! Our heartfelt thanks go to our sponsors and everyone who played a part in making the event the success it was. We can’t wait to be back in 2023 to what we hope will be bigger and better!”

After Steffan Bowen, Managing Director at M&D Care, set the runners on their way, he said:

“Today was a fantastic event for everyone! It has been a privilege to be sponsoring the Llanelli Half again this year and my team and I thoroughly enjoyed the day from start to finish! As a local family-run business we feel that it's important to come together to support events that promote good health and wellbeing. We are passionate about our community and events like these demonstrate just what we can achieve together. Well done to all those who took part in the M&D Care Llanelli Half Marathon, you were amazing!”


The top three male finishers' times did not disappoint, with first place going to Sam Richards of Pontypridd Roadents in a time of 1:11:45. Coming in second, was James Thie, also from Pontypridd Roadents, achieving his place in 1:15:19. Following closely in third place was Sam Joseph of Swansea Harriers in 1:15:43.

The female top three also achieved some good finishing times, with Laura Davies taking first place in 1:27:14. Second place was taken by Swansea Harrier, Emma Baxter in 1:28:25 and in third, was Luticia Thomas, also from Swansea Harriers in a time of 1:29:25.

Bristol 10k

The Bristol 10k incorporated an England v Wales masters match, with Lucy Marland (Cardiff) finishing in third with a time of 36:05 and Matt Rees, going all in again, finishing second with a time of 31:33.
