Microplus UK Athletics Indoor Championships - Birmingham, February 22-23

The UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham saw Welsh athletes return home with eight medals, a world record and a national under-17 record.

There were golds for Olympian Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics), multi-eventer Abi Pawlett (Trafford) and Justin Davies (Team Bath) in the 60m, 60m hurdles and 800m respectively.

While Sabrina Fortune (Deeside AC) improved her F20 shot put world record on her way to winning a bronze medal and 15-year-old Darcy Coslett (Llanelli AC) set a new UK under-17 400m record.

There were silver medals for Iolo Grant (Cardiff Archers) in the men’s 60m hurdlers, Mark Mellor (Cardiff Athletics) in the men’s pole vault and Patrick Swan in the men’s shot put. Hannah Lake (Cardiff Athletics) claimed bronze in the women’s high jump.

There were a number of other personal bests achieved and promising performances from athletes taking part in their first UK championships.

XL Zurich Seville Marathon 2025 - Seville, February 23

In Spain, endurance athlete Emily Merchant (Swansea Harriers) ran a personal best in the Zurich Seville Marathon in a time of 2:36.52.

Cancer Research UK London Winter Run 2025 - London, February 23

Kristian Jones (Swansea Harriers) had a superb run at the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run on Sunday. His time of 29:22 won him the race - beating nearly 20,000 competitors and improving his personal best by ten seconds.

Welsh Schools National Cross Country Championships - Brecon, February 19

The 62nd edition of the Welsh Schools National Cross Country Championships took place last Wednesday in Brecon.

With over 600 pupils in attendance, a sequence of 8 highly competitive races took place as young endurance athletes battled it out for team and individual titles as well as selection for the SIAB International to be held in Falkirk.

The first 6 from the Junior and Middle races are all automatic qualifiers for this event. The remaining places and relay spots will be decided in a selection meeting to be held shortly.
