Bryn Woodall (Furman) dipped under four minutes for the mile at the Asics Last Chance Invitational.
The Colwyn Bay AC middle distance specialist clocked 3:58.06 as he took victory in the men’s mile.
The previous week, Ben Reynolds (Cardiff Athletics/Virginia Tech) also broke four minutes as he won the Asics Sound Invite men’s mile in 3:58.01. In the same race, Matthew Brunnock (Western Tempo/Wingate) just missed out on a four minute mile with 4:00.76.
VAULT MANCHESTER 2026 – CARDIFF, FEBRUARY 21
UK Indoor Athletics Championships medallist Tom Walley (Wrexham AC) was in action again this weekend at the Vault Manchester event where he finished second with a season’s best 5.21m.
COMBINED EVENTS COPERNICUS CUP, TORUN – FEBRUARY 22
The Copernicus Cup saw Abi Pawlett (Trafford AC) extend her Welsh Pentathlon record and go second on the current world ranking list.
Pawlett, who was on Welsh record breaking form to win the 60m hurdles title at last weekend’s UK Indoor Athletics Championships, added 250 points to her Welsh pentathlon record in Poland on Sunday.
On her way to gold over the hurdles in Birmingham, Pawlett clocked 8.05. This weekend, she couldn’t quite reproduce that kind of form but still clocked 8.18 as she won the first event of the competition.
However, she was at the top of her game in the next discipline – the high jump - as she soared to a new PB of 1.80m.
Next up was the shot put, where the 23-year-old recorded a best of 14.16m.
The long jump saw Pawlett record another PB as she flew out to a best of 6.32m and she repeated the feat in the 800m where she recorded another PB of 2:17.69.
Unfortunately, Pawlett’s total of 4675 wasn’t quite enough to take the win on the day as she was edged out by just one point.
However, she had the consolation of improving her own Welsh record and posting the second largest total in the world this year.
ORLEN COPERNICUS CUP – TORUN, FEBRUARY 22
Following her 800m gold at last weekend’s UK Indoor Athletics Championships, Issy Boffey (Enfield and Haringey AC) finished fourth in Poland.
In the final fixture of the World Indoor Tour Gold series, Boffey clocked 1:59.80 as she finished just off the podium behind Nigist Getachew, of Ethiopia, who won in 1:59.32.
ALICANTE HALF MARATHON – FEBRUARY 22
Great Britain mountain running international Eden O’Dea (Deeside AC) won the Alicante Half Marathon in Spain on Sunday.
O’Dea crossed the line in a new personal best of 76.00 to take the win while fellow Welsh athlete and GB international Josh Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) finished sixth in the men’s race in 67.36.
CARDIFF JUMPS FEST – FEBRUARY 22
Following her Welsh record and silver medal at the UK Indoor Athletics Championships in Birmingham last weekend, Reese Robinson (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) was once again in action in the women’s triple jump at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff.
Robinson, who jumped 13.05m in Birmingham, produced a best of 12.42m at the weekend, finishing second to UK indoor champion Georgina Forde-Wells (Woodford Green Essex Ladies), who registered 13.25m.
Third place went to Lauren Hill (Cardiff Athletics), who leapt out to a best of 12.09m with her fifth round jump.
Another medallist from the UK Indoor Championships, Hannah Lake (Cardiff Athletics) was in action in Cardiff.
Lake claimed the win in the women’s high jump with a season’s best of 1.78m. Second was Lili Church (Carmarthen Harriers) with a new PB of 1.75m.
In the women’s long jump, Amy Hughes (Cardiff Archers) followed up her gold at the Welsh Indoor Athletics Championships at the same venue earlier this month, by claiming a new PB.
Hughes saved her best until last as she produced a jump of 6.39m to finish second behind Molly Palmer (Thames Valley Harriers) who took the win with a UK lead of 6.68m.
Fourth place went to National Development Programme multi-eventer Tianna Odugbesan (Cardiff Archers) who registered a best of 5.71m.
