British Athletics London Cross Challenge inc Home Countries Cross Country International, 20 January

Matt Willis (Wrexham AAC) was the top Welsh finisher in the Senior Men's race at the London Cross Challenge on Saturday, in 11th place. Beth Kidger (Brighton Phoenix) was the first Welsh athlete in the Senior Women's race finishing in 16th place amongst a strong domestic field.

A team of 18 athletes travelled to London to represent Wales at the Home Countries Cross Country International held within the Cross Challenge fixture.

Non Thomas Indoor Grand Prix, 21 January

There was a new track and meeting record set at the Non Thomas Indoor Grand Prix at NIAC on Saturday. In the women’s 300m Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers) took victory also breaking the track, meeting and all comers record with a time of 38.74.

BMC Races, National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff, 21 January

The British Milers Club headed to Cardiff on Sunday, which saw a new Welsh Record set.

In the women’s 1500m Jenny Nesbitt (Pontypridd Roadents) took victory with a time of 4:15.50. Stepping up to the senior race was U17 athlete Libby Hale (Swansea Harriers) finishing fith overall with a time of 4:26.91, breaking the U17 Welsh 1500m Indoor record.

In the men’s 1500m Piers Copeland (Pontypridd Roadents) was first to finish with a time of 3:41.53.

Mitja Marató Santa Pola Half Marathon, 21 January

There was plenty of Welsh representation at the Mitja Marató Santa Pola Half Marathon on Sunday. Natasha Cockram (Micky Morris Racing Team) finished fourth in a time of 1:10.06, which moves Cockram to second on the Welsh all-time Half Marathon list.

Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) continued his marathon preparations, completing the course in 1:04.15.

Both Andrew Davies (Stockport/Mercia Fell) and Josh Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) also took on the half marathon, with Davies finishing in 1:06.40 and Griffiths in 1:07.45.

North Wales Regional Indoor Championships, 20 January

The North Wales Regional Indoor Championships headed to Deeside on Saturday.

Sabrina Fortune (Deeside  AAC) got her indoor season underway in the senior women’s shot put, with a best throw of 13.87m.

Lliswerry 8, Newport, 21 January

The popular Lliswerry 8 Mile Road Race took place on Sunday in the Gwent Levels, starting and finishing at Lliswerry High School.

Races were won by Jonathan Butler (Swansea Harriers) in 39:34 and Alaw Evans (Les Croupiers RC) in 45:48.

Larry Wieczorek Invitational, 19 January

Over in America, Amber Simpson (Wrexham/Illinois University) took victory in the weighted throw, throwing a best distance of 21.94m.

Cyclone Open, 19 January

Adam Phillips (Cardiff/Drake University) was also in action in America over the weekend, which saw the athlete win the weighted throw with a new personal best of 21.61m.
