Cardiff Met Christmas Classic

The traditional pre Christmas festival of competition took place this Sunday at NIAC. Although (maybe!!) famous for its Santa Dash, the meeting produced some fantastic performances to round out the year.

With 7 heats of 3000m on the track, there was always potential for some top class performances. In the mens race, Piers Copeland (Wimborne) dipped just inside 8 minutes, closing in a fast last lap to stop the cook in 7:59.51,  ahead of u20 Osian Perrin (Menai) who ran a mighty impressive 8:01.20. Osian has now moved himself into 3 UK All Time u20 over the distance. James Heneghan (Cardiff) rounded out the top three in 8:04.34, also setting a new personal best.

The women also performed well in the mix graded races, with Jenny Nesbitt (Cardiff) running a 20 second personal best to move herself into 9th on the UK All Time List, and second on the Welsh All Time List. Her time of 8:44.92 was also a Welsh All Commers Record.

In the 3000m Race Walk, Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Bethan Davies (Cardiff), walked away from the field, stopping the clock at 13:17.38.

The women’s 60m hurdles was won by 400m hurdle specialist Caryl Granville (Swansea) in 8.56 seconds ahead of Lauren Evans (Cardiff) in of 8.70s and Grace Morgan (Cardiff Archers) in 8.73s, both setting new personal bests. Caryl backed that run up with a win in the 300m, running a time of 40.12s.
