Welsh Athletics, Commonwealth Games Team Wales, and Mauve Group are delighted to jointly welcome you to a night of Welsh sport, business, and culture – featuring illustrious sporting speakers who are leading the charge for equality, diversity, and inclusion.

The event will form part of Wales Week in London which is an annual showcase of activities and events that celebrate and promote everything great about Wales to a London-based audience.

Event details: Tuesday 27th February 2024 at 6pm in St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation & Peace, 78 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 4AG.

We are delighted to partner with Commonwealth Games Team Wales and Mauve Group to showcase our fantastic sport and nation during Wales Week London.

 

The event will highlight the importance of ED&I and showcase the great work that is currently happening within Welsh sport to ensure we provide inclusive and accessible opportunities for all.

 

We will be joined by three legendary former and present athletes, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Christian Malcolm and Aled Siôn Davies OBE, each who will share their story and experience in this very important area.

We are honoured to announce Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson as one of our keynote speakers at the event. Baroness Tanni is a legendary Paralympian, having won 11 gold medals at five Paralympic Games, and setting 30 world records in wheelchair racing throughout her career. Beyond her remarkable athletic achievements, Baroness Tanni is a dedicated advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion across sport, business, and politics. As a member of the House of Lords, she continues to champion these principles, working towards a more inclusive future for all.

Joining Baroness Tanni is Christian Malcolm, retired Welsh sprinter, renowned athletics coach, and advocate for inclusivity and diversity in sport. Christian has represented Great Britain in multiple Olympic and Commonwealth Games, and World Championships, during his athletic career, specialising in the 200 metres. As a coach, he has contributed significantly to the development of young athletes and jointly won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Coach Award in 2017 for his role in Team GB’s relay success at the World Athletics Championships.

Paralympian and world record-holding shot put champion, Aled Siôn Davies OBE, will also be in conversation on the night. In 2012, Aled Siôn Davies became the world record holder of the F42 shot put and won the bronze medal in shot put and the gold medal in the discus at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. In the Rio Summer Paralympics in 2016, Davies won a gold medal in the F42 shot put, setting a new Paralympic record. He now has his eyes firmly set on the Paralympic Games this summer in Paris.

Our fantastic panel will discuss the importance of ED&I, followed by an audience Q&A where you can ask them about their achievements, international careers, and advocacy for equality. Don't miss the opportunity to gain insights from their extraordinary journeys and learn how ED&I can drive success in both sport and business.

You’ll also hear from Team Wales CEO Rebecca Edwards-Symmons, Welsh Athletics CEO James Williams, and Mauve Group CEO Ann Ellis, on how Welsh sport and business are breaking down barriers and fostering an inclusive, flexible, and accessible culture for all.

Guests will enjoy Welsh food from Cardiff-based Tidy Kitchen Company, and signature drinks from the likes of Tiny Rebel and In the Welsh Wind. There’ll be key networking opportunities, as we enjoy Welsh musical entertainment inside the spectacular surroundings of one of London’s unique medieval churches.
