The evening session on day one was quieter in terms of the number of Welsh Athletes on show but Olivia lit up the evening for Wales. Coming in as the second fastest qualifier for the T38 Women’s 100m, the first final of the track and field programme, she got out to a good start and as the race progressed was able to close down and overall Sophie and cross the line with her arms aloft in a new lifetime best of 12.83. 

A delighted Olivia then took a long, well-deserved lap of honour before speaking to the media:

“I’m so happy, I knew tonight I wanted to give it my all, I went sub-13 and got a PB. I just knew get a good start, just get past Sophie, keep going, don’t tense up and stay relaxed. I’m just so so happy. A massive thank you to everyone, let’s go Team Wales!”

Lauren Evans was the other Welsh athlete competing. In event three of the women’s Heptathlon – the shot put. Her best throw of the night came in the second round – 10.13m worth 538 points. After the shot it was time to getting the sprinting legs on for Lauren with the 200m the last event on day one. Lauren gave it everything and came away with 813 points clocking 25.80. Three events to go on day two for Lauren who spoke to us after:

"The atmosphere was amazing, especially for the hurdles, it really spurred me on, and hearing the Welsh anthem for Olivia at the start of my 200m was incredible. I'm a bit tired now, but ice bath sleep, and i'll be ready to go again."

Day two is another busy day for Welsh athletes and will see Adele, Lauren, Hannah & Jeremiah all return to complete their events, as well as Joe Brier and Rhys Jones starting their campaigns, and Aled Davies and Harrison Walsh going in the men’s F42-44 discus.
