All those hard hours of winter training are behind you, its time to deliver - here's a summary of all the key Track & Field meetings coming up this season:

Championships

The pinnacle of the athletics calendar in Wales where everyone will be competing for the title of Welsh Champion. A couple of changes for 2019; Junior Championships will take place in Wrexham, Inter-Regional Championships will move to Aberdare this year then rotating around the regions in subsequent years. Senior Championships will include some Masters categories in 1500 and 5k (M35, M45, M55, M65+)

Internationals

Opportunities for the up and coming Welsh talent to gain some international experience. WAI will look to continue providing an international field,and it is Wales’ turn to host SIAB this year which is the top step for schools competitions.

  • SIAB – 20th July
  • Welsh Athletics U20 International – 24th July

Leagues

These provide opportunities for local competition within a club format where clubs can compete for bragging rights. Masters can now compete within the Senior League with the implement weight and hurdle height suitable to their age category and be scored accordingly

Welsh Junior League – East
  • 4th May – Hereford
  • 25th May – Aberdare
  • 29th June – Newport
  • 27th July – Cardiff Met
Junior League Cup and Plate Final
  • 24th August – Plate Final
  • 25th August Cup Final
Event Specific Opens

Provide an opportunity for real specialism where the environment is set as best as possible for the athletes to gain the best performance. Quite light-hearted and informal meetings aimed at helping athletes develop. Both MDAL and #runwiththewind have an extra fixture this year (4 and 3 respectively)

  • 15th May - #runwiththewind Open 1 – Cardiff
  • 29th May - MDAL Endurance Open 2 - Cwmbran
  • 5th June - #runwiththewind Open 2 – Cardiff
  • 31st July – MDAL Endurance Open 3 – Swansea
  • 7th August - #runwiththewind Open 3 – Cardiff
  • 14th August – MDAL Endurance Open 4 – Newport
