Welsh Athletics are delighted to announce the fixtures for the 2020 Outdoor Track and Field season.

The Championship period will kick off with the Welsh Junior Championships taking place on what has become its usual spot in the calendar of the 13th and 14th June and will return to Newport Stadium after visiting Wrexham in 2019. Following a review of the 2019 season, two major changes will be put in place for 2020.  Firstly, a reduction in entry fees from £9.50 to £6.00 per event, and secondly; the entire competition for the U15 age group will be integrated into the Senior Championships weekend.

The Senior Championships (now incorporating the Welsh U15 Championships) will take place at its traditional venue of Cardiff International Sports Campus on the 11th and 12th July. This competition will once again see the best athletes Wales has to offer competing for the coveted title of Welsh Champion.  Once again, the Senior 3000m Championships will take place at the Welsh Athletics International on Wednesday 22nd July.

Following further reviews of the 2019 season and extensive feedback from Welsh Athletics members, we are also excited to announce the establishment of the new Welsh Athletics Virtual League.  The traditional format of the Welsh Senior League will cease to exist, making way for the popular and ever-growing event-specific competitions.  In this new league format, athletes will be awarded points based on their performances at both event-specific competitions and Welsh Championships, accumulating points both individually and for their clubs.  This culmination of the Virtual League will be a Finals Weekend, which will feature a showdown between the highest-scoring athletes in each event.

Both the Welsh 5000m and Steeplechase Championships will be integrated into these event-specific competitions, taking place on Saturday 23rd May (Swansea), and Wednesday 24th June (Newport) respectively.

Regional Championships will take place on the weekend of 9th/10th May across Wales, with the Inter-Regional Championships currently scheduled for Sunday 2nd August.

The Welsh Schools Championships, although no longer a part of the Gemau Cymru event, will occupy its usual weekend of Saturday 4th July at Cardiff International Sports Campus and will be followed 4 days later by the Inter-Schools Cup and Plate Finals in Brecon.

The Welsh Junior League will retain its 4 fixtures with teams competing for a place in the Plate and Cup Finals on 22nd and 23rd August respectively in Swansea. The qualifying fixtures are:
