The Helena Tipping 10k will host the return of the Welsh Inter-Regional 10km Championships on Sunday and form the fourth fixture in the Welsh 10km Road Running Series.

Race organisers Run Cheshire have compiled extremely competitive fields and in prospect, the top road race field in North Wales for many years.

Course records currently sit at 29:53 for the men (Matt Clowes) and 33:59 for the women (Emily Kearney) but are likely to be erased on Sunday with a collection of the Uk’s top endurance runners targeting fast times at the flat and fast Wrexham based event.

Kadar Omar (28:27) and Omar Ahmed (28:35) top the men’s start list and have a collection of Welsh race wins between them that includes victories at the ABP Newport Wales 10k, Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run, Cardiff 5k – Race For Victory, Cardiff University / Cardiff Half Marathon and the Ogi Porthcawl 10k.

Jonny Mellor (28:30) and Abdulqani Sharif (28:29) are further sub 29 minute performers in action on Sunday.

Lily Partridge (33:03) was the winner of the Ogi Porthcawl earlier this month and is joined in the field by Olympian Sonia Samuels (33:18), Louise Small (33:20) and defending Champion Emily Kearney (33:39).

The Inter-Regional Competition hosts a match for athletes competing for East, North, South and West Wales Teams both individually, as a team and for master’s teams.

Donna Morris currently leads the women’s rankings in the Welsh 10km Series and will be in action here for the East Wales team. Dewi Griffiths heads the men’s rankings but will not be travelling North this time.
