It was a great couple of days from our Welsh athletes, with two highlights. These two performances came from Jac Palmer (Adrian Palmer) and Jake Heyward. Both athletes have just secured their qualification standard from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Jac Palmer competed at the Welsh Athletics Spring Invitational at the Ron James Stadium, where he continued to show off the fine form that he is in. Palmer launched the hammer to secure victory in a SB distance of 69.74 securing him his Commonwealth Games standard which also puts him top of the Welsh rankings for 2021.

Jake Heyward competed at the Track Meet Sound Running – World Continental Tour Bronze in the USA where he is currently based. Heyward secured 2nd place in a new PB of 3:36.24. This new PB puts Jake 3 seconds within the 1500m Commonwealth Games standard.

With these two performances, we now have 11 athletes that have attained their standard. We look forward to seeing what our athletes can produce this weekend at the Loughborough International.

At the European Race Walking Team Championships, walkers Heather Lewis (Chris Jones and Pete Freeman) and Bethan Davies (Andi Drake) competed over the 20km. Lewis finished 17th securing a PB in the process finishing in 1:34:13. Davies finished 31st in a time of 1:37:09.

At the Birchfield Harriers NAL warmup, sprinters took to the line to mix it up with some great performances. Sam Gordon (Matt Elias) opened his season winning the first 100m of the day in a SB of 10.43 beating sub10 runner Joel Fearon in the process. Jeremiah Azu (Helen Adams) came in 3rd place with a SB time of 10.47. In the 2nd round of the 100m, Azu got the better of Gordon, Azu running a SB time of 10.30w and Gordon running 10.35w.

Hannah Brier (Matt Elias) also competed in the 100m running a SB time of 11.79 and then later competed in the 200m with a time of 24.2 into a -3.

Unfortunately, there are issues with the results of the 100m but some results can be found here: Birchfield Harriers NAL warmup
