Malcolm “Mac” Beames who has died was a key member of Roath Harriers and was the driving force behind so many of their road race promotions particularly the Lake 15 which attracted many leading UK distance runners during the 1960s. He was also an ever present member of their road and cross country teams during the 1950s and 1960s. Roath and the other Cardiff club, Birchgrove Harriers merged in 1968 to form Cardiff AAC.
