Day two of the Commonwealth Games athletics action at Glasgow’s Scotstoun Stadium features a trio of Welsh track stars taking centre stage.
Tuesday morning kicks off with the in-form Charlotte Henrich (Invicta East Kent) making her Commonwealth Games debut in the women’s 400m first round which starts at 10.30.
Henrich, who has twice broken the Welsh 400m record this year – most recently at the Novuna London Diamond League earlier this month - goes in heat one where she will face the likes of Paris Olympian Laviai Nielsen, of England.
The 19-year-old was born in France, but her mother hails from Carmarthen. In 2024, Henrich helped Great Britain’s 4x400m team win bronze at the World Under-20 Championships.
Following the unfortunate withdrawal of Abi Pawlett (Trafford AC) from the women’s heptathlon, the only other Welsh athlete in action on Tuesday morning is Justin Davies (Team Bath) who opens his men’s 800m campaign.
The first round gets underway at 11:15 with the Welsh record holder due to run in heat three.
Davies’ race will also include England’s Max Burgin while the wider entry features 2022 silver medallist Peter Bol, of Australia.
The Welshman completed his build up for the games with a season’s best 1:45.99 at the Novuna London Games earlier this month.
The evening session sees Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) lining up in the 100m semi-finals at 19:10 having cruised through his first round heat on Monday morning with an impressive win in 10.10.
The 25-year-old, who finished fifth in the final four years ago, will be aiming for a spot in this year final which is due to take place at 21:28.
