It’s a double final Friday for Welsh athletics fans to look forward to this evening.
With no Welsh athletes in action during the morning, all the attention will focus on Olivia Breen (City of Portsmouth) and Issy Boffey (Enfield and Haringey), who star in the evening session.
Breen will be hoping to add to the silver medal she has already won when she takes to the runway in the T38 long jump final.
The Team Wales captain won the first track and field medal of these games finishing second in the T38 100m final.
After the race, Breen said she was targeting another medal in the long jump final.
The 30-year-old has history in this event, having won the T38 Commonwealth Games long jump title on the Gold Coast in 2018.
On Friday night Breen will line up for the final at 20:05 when she will face young pretender Maddie Down, of England. The 18-year-old claimed bronze behind Breen in the T38 100m final on Monday.
Among the others taking part will be multi-talented South African Liezel Gouws, who as well as a talented long jumper, is the T37 800m world record holder.
Breen, however, has the best personal best of all the competitors going into the final.
Then at 20:25, Boffey will line up in the women’s 800m final. The Enfield and Haringey athlete had qualified after a nervous wait in the “hot seat” to determine whether she was won of the fastest non-automatic qualifiers from her semi.
But once given the nod, Boffey was delighted and excited to be involved in the Friday night showpiece.
In the final, the 26-year-old has been drawn in lane eight where she will face the likes of Georgia Hunter-Bell, of England, who last year won silver at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Also lining up will be World Champion Lilian Odira, of Kenya.
