Empowering Runners: Guide Running Workshop at Leckwith
23/02/2025 00:00, I Mewn Blog /
Despite the cold and rainy conditions at Leckwith Stadium last night, Welsh Athletics, delivered another successful Guide Running Workshop. The wet weather may have tested us, but it certainly didn’t dampen the energy and enthusiasm of everyone involved.
More than just learning the technical skills of guide running, the workshop highlighted the power of community, inclusion, and shared experiences. Our tutors emphasised that guiding isn’t just about assisting a visually impaired runner—it’s about breaking barriers, building confidence, and making running accessible to all.
A special highlight of the evening was our guest speaker, Stuart Ball from Sight Life, who shared his inspiring journey. From being introduced to running with licenced guides at Les Croupiers Running Club to recently completing the challenging Eryri Marathon, Stuart’s story resonated deeply with everyone in attendance. His inspiring insights and advice boosted the confidence of all participants, highlighting that they weren’t just learning a skill—they were gaining a superpower! By becoming guide runners, they are opening up life-changing opportunities for visually impaired runners, making the sport more inclusive and empowering.
A huge thank you to all attendees for their passion and commitment to making running more inclusive. We travel to Wrexham on 2 March Welsh Athletics Guide Running Workshop - Wrexham (WAGRW24.5) so if you’re interested in becoming a guide runner or learning more, we’d love to have you join us!
