Day 1: 2024 Welsh U13 / U17 / U20 Indoor Championships Round-Up

A Welsh Record and a hattrick of Championship Best Performances for Cardiff Archers in the hurdles on Day 1 of competition. Sophie Lisk (Cardiff Archers), Iola Grant (Cardiff Archers) and Menna Grant (Cardiff Archers) all enjoyed successful outings.
Sophie Lisk (Cardiff Archers) kick-started the Championship Best Performances in the U20 women’s 60m heats, with a time of 8.76 seconds. Lisk went on to run the same time in the final of the event to take the Welsh title, a week after taking bronze in the senior women’s event.
Further Championship Best Performances came from Iola Grant (Cardiff Archers) in the U20 men’s event with a time of 7.95 seconds. Menna Grant (Cardiff Archers) went on to set a new Welsh record and take the third Championship Best in the following race to take the U17 women’s title in 8.59 seconds.
It was a close contest in the U20 men’s pole vault between Charlie Shuall (Swansea Harriers) and Aharon Graham Mulvaney (Cardiff Athletics). Both athletes jumped huge new personal bests, with Shuall taking the title with a clearance of 4.23m and Mulvaney clearing 4.13m.
A dominant victory came from Owen Garret (Yate & District) in the U17 men’s shot put, to take the title with a huge throw of 14.76m, 3m further than the silver medal position.
Both Tomi Roberts-Jones (Newport Harriers) and William Bishop (Cardiff Met Uni & Deeside AAC) enjoyed another weekend of competition, returning for a second successive weekend. Roberts-Jones took victory in the U20 men’s ambulant / para long jump with a jump of 3.95m, and also took silver in the ambulant / para 60m with 8.99 seconds and 222 Raza Points. Whilst Bishop took the 60m title with 8.90 seconds and 551 Raza Points.
Whilst his team secured a hattrick of Championships Best Performances, Luca Phillips secured a hattrick of gold medals (Cardiff Archers) claiming the U17 men’s triple jump, 60m hurdles and 60m titles. The Cardiff Archers athlete continues to lead the UK U17 triple jump rankings.
