37TH ANNUAL BARRY 40 MILE TRACK RACE INC THE 34TH WELSH ULTRA DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 37th edition of the Barry 40-mile track race inc the 34th Welsh Ultra Distance Championships will take place this Sunday at Jenner Park. With the line up including international representation from Italy and Hungary.

Ollie Garrod (South London Harriers) and Jen Coleman (Les Croupiers) have both been in great form and are hoping to return and retain their titles. Garrod recently set a new English record for 50km at Goodwood two weeks previous and has the potential to run significantly inside 4 hours.

Newcomer Dan Rothwell (Swansea Harriers) will be competing over the 40-mile distance. As well as running ultra-distances, Rothwell also has great form in shorter distances. In March 2022 he ran 67:16 in the Cardiff Half Marathon, he recently finished 5th in the Welsh Cross Country Championships at Brecon on Saturday.

Carole Goddard (Les Croupiers) and Gareth Logan (Les Croupiers will be making their track marathon debuts. Goddard has already started on a positive note in 2023 with a 5-minute PB in Les Croupiers Handicap 10 miles with 72:13. Like Goddard, Logan recorded a massive personal best in Les Croupiers Handicap 10 miles on 29 January with 68:14.

The experienced Dave Coles (Les Croupiers) will be tackling the marathon. With a 5:18:47 clocking in March 2020 for a new Welsh Over 60 record, which he improved to 5:14:50 in 2021 and 5:06:40 last March.

Tamas Szikszay (Unattached) will also be competing over the marathon distance. Szikszay has been competing in ultras since 2012. Originally from Hungary, he is a frequent visitor to Wales, he ran the Barry 40 in 2014, placing 11th in 5:43:27.
