Welsh athletes ran very well in challenging wet, cold and gusty conditions at the Armagh International 3k & 5k Road Races on Thursday 8 February. The early morning/afternoon sleet and snow turned to persistent rain for the evening Races.

In the women’s near 2 & 3/4 lap 3k race, despite an unfortunate fall whilst in the leading pack, Angharad Davies (Carmarthen Harriers) still managed to complete the race with scrapes & bruises in a time of 9:53 while Sophie Pikett (Elswick Harriers) clocked 10:07.

In the men's 4 & 3/4 lap race, Ben Reynolds (Cardiff AC) had a storming run to finish in a time of 14:05 (PB) followed by: Jonathan Butler (Swansea Harriers) 14:29. Chris Thomas (Thames Valley Harriers) 14:37 and Dafydd Jones (Swansea Harriers) 14:40. Wales finished 5th in the international team standings.

The women’s 3k race was won be Megan Davies (Sale Harriers) in a time of 19:19 with Welsh athlete Cari Hughes, running for the On Athletic Team given the same time finishing 2nd.

The men's 5k race was won by the current European 3,000m steeplechase champion Topi Raitanen (Finland) in a time of 13:49.

Overall, despite the weather conditions, excellent, elite racing on show for everyone.
