It has been another busy weekend, full of strong performances by a number of Welsh Athletes on the track, the roads and over the mud.
Welsh Schools National Cross Country Championships - Brecon
It was another busy weekend for Wales's junior athletes as many took to the mud for the Welsh Schools National Cross Country Championships! Held in Penlan Arena, Brecon, the challenging course made for a great day of racing, with many battling it out to gain a place on the Welsh Schools Cross Country Team which will go on to compete at the SIAB Cross Country International in Pembrey on Saturday 26th March 2022. The first 6 in the Junior and Middle races automaticlly secured their place on the team!

PUL5KM - Battersea Park
Welsh Athletics sent a strong team of athletes down to London to compete in a fast 5km. There was a fantastic set of performances, with highlights coming from the Senior Women’s race, where Charlotte Arter (Cardiff), Cari Hughes (Cardiff) and Beth Kidger (Brighton) packed incredibly strongly, all crossing the line within 2 seconds of each other, in 15:56, 15:57, 15:57. A great return to racing for Charlotte, a PB for Cari and a PB for Beth.
In the mens race Michael Ward (Cardiff) placed a fantastic 2nd in a time of 13:54, a 36 second improvement on his previous best, whilst Ieuan Thomas (Cardiff) ran 14:09, just 3 seconds outside of his personal best to place 17th overall. Jonathan Hopkins (Swansea) was 30th, running 14:18.

Lilac Grand Prix and the BU Valentine Invite - USA
Jake Heyward (Cardiff) and Jenny Nesbitt (Cardiff) both set New Welsh Records over 3,000m indoors and 5,000m indoors. Read more about it here.

BMC Indoor Race - Lee Valley
James Heneghan (Cardiff) run a strong 800m race finishing in second place in 1:49.69 whilst Kate Seary (Cardiff) finished in 3rd place in the Women's 3,000m in 9:28.40.

World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver - Metz, France
Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff) once again produced another consistent result, posting a time of 6.61s in the 60m, winning his heat.

England Athletics Championships - Sheffield
Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers) started where she left off from the Welsh U15 Indoor Championships the other week, moving up a place to 5th on the UK All Time U15 60m rankings, winning her race in 7.51s. Aliyah Afolabi (Cardiff Archers) also set a personal best in second place, recording a time of 25.68s. In the longer sprint event, U17 Chloe Farmer (Cardiff Archers) ran a fantstic personal best of 41.72s to take 3rd.
In the U17 mens 60m hurdle final, Iolo Grant (Cardiff Archers) came 8th clocking 8.73s. In the U15 boys equivalent Luca Phillips (Cardiff Archers) came 7th in 9.51s. On the girls side, U17 Sophie Lisk (Cardiff Archers) just missed out on a medal, placing 4th in 8.72s.
In the U17 girls 1,500 Ceri Griffiths (Newport Harriers) ran 4:51.94 to return home with a strong victory!
In the U17 mens high jump, Osian Roberts (Carmarthen) placed 2nd, clearing a height of 1.91m, whilst U15 Luca Phillps came 7th, clearning a height of 1.55m. Aharon Graham Mulvaney (Cardiff) had the best performance of his life in the U17 mens pole vault, clearing 3.85m, good enough of 2nd. Harry Newton (Swansea) also set a seasons best, clearing 3.70m to come 5th. In the U17 womens long jump, Jessic Lee (Carmarthen) had another strong performance, leaping 6.56m to place 2nd. Luca Phillips was back in action again, this time in the long jump, taking home another medal, and a personal best of 5.80m to come third!

Llandudno Nick Beer 10km
The annual event returned this year to see wins from Daniel Kashi of Sale Harriers in 32:55 and Sarah Willhoit of Shrewsbury AC in 35:35.

Cardiff 20/20
Using Cardiff's beautiful Pontcanna Fields and the wonderful Taff Trail, the Cardiff 20/10 was won by Michael Young (West Chesire) and Debbie Rees (Cardiff) and Gary Brown (Penarth and Dinas Runners) Anna Hurley (Cornelly Striders).
