Shaping the Future of Coach Education: A Collaborative Step Forward

Last week, we had the opportunity to visit Edinburgh for a significant and productive meeting focused on the future of coach education across the Home Country Athletics Federations (HCAFs). This gathering marked a key milestone in our joint efforts to align and evolve our approach to coach development, particularly in light of the recent consultation around the current Coach Education Qualifications pathway.

At the heart of our discussions was the ongoing Coaching Review and its recommendations. We explored the next steps for implementation, ensuring that our shared vision for a modern, effective, and inclusive coaching framework becomes a reality. Emphasis was also placed on Health & Safety, Mandatory Training, and the software platforms required to support and sustain this work moving forward.

From a Welsh Athletics perspective, these are truly exciting times. We continue to see a steady increase in the number of active licensed coaches in Wales, evidence of both a growing interest in our sport and the strength of our coaching community as a whole. We are also incredibly proud to report a 50/50 gender split among our coaching workforce, with both male and female coaches thriving and actively contributing across the country.

This collaborative, cross-HCAF approach is vital as we work together to meet the evolving needs of athletics in Wales and beyond. Stay tuned as there’s more to come in the weeks ahead as we move forward with this important and impactful journey.
