Welsh Athletics has today taken the decision to access the Government Job retention scheme and to furlough a number of staffing roles for an initial period of 1 month.

In light of the unprecedented challenges being imposed on the sport due to the COVID-19 situation, Welsh Athletics has acted to protect the jobs of our staff and to help stabilise the medium and long term finances of the organisation.

Welsh Athletics will be furloughing 9 members of staff, starting from April 20^th and for an initial 1 month period.

Interim CEO, James Williams commented:

“These are unprecedented times, and we are all having to make extremely difficult decisions. The current restrictions has made it almost impossible for certain staff members to undertake their roles in a meaningful way. Since the sport was suspended on the 17^th of March, we have acted to protect the sport, protect the organisation and to protect jobs. The decision to furlough staff will go some way to helping us achieve these objectives. The remaining staff will continue to do all they can to support our clubs, athletes, coaches and officials during these extremely challenging and uncertain times for everyone.

 

I would like to put on record my thanks to all the staff for their professionalism and commitment that they have all shown over the past few weeks.

 

Our sport will return stronger than ever, and we look forward to welcoming all those who have started running to help their physical and mental wellbeing in recent weeks, to the Welsh Athletics family.”
