Feature Friday - Bridgend Juniors buzzing to be back

07/05/2021 00:00, I Mewn Blog / Club Notice Board /

We sent our new roving reporter, Sports Broadcast Masters student & Commonwealth Athlete, Jenny Nesbitt, to find out how young athletes felt about being able to get back training and ENGAGE with their friends:

"Despite the wet, windy and cold May evening, nothing was going to stop the Bridgend A.C. junior athletes enjoy having their training nights back. Having been back on track for a few weeks, the resounding positive theme was the return of social interaction, seeing friends and the element of outdoor fun.

The enthusiasm from all the young athletes to get involved in any discipline, in any weather drew a hypothetical rainbow in the sky. With smiles stretched upon the faces of them all, it is very easy to see what a return to sport meant to them.

Aside from the participation in athletic activities, the confidence, interactions, self worth and development that comes with a return to training has been echoed by all the young athletes, highlighting just how important this is.

As soon as lockdown restrictions allowed, Chris Jeynes, junior coach, ensured all athletes had an opportunity to return to the track, emphasising the importance of having a go at everything, and not missing out on the chance to run, jump and throw. It is safe to say, that despite time away from the track, everything is being done to provide these young athletes with a chance to build friendships, keep fit and develop skills.”

Thanks to all the young athletes and coaches at Bridgend for talking to us and to Jenny for this story, if you'd like to have your club featured, please email media@welshathletics.org - we love getting out of the office to come and see what you're all up to!
