Olympic Games: when to watch the 5 Welsh Athletes

The Olympic Games officially open tonight with the eagerly awaited Opening Ceremony, but it won't be until early August that the athletics competition will start at the majestic Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

This year's Games saw five Welsh Athletes take part, a great improvement in numbers since the last 2008 Beijing Olympics when two representatives from Wales took part.

The Famous Five will be veteran Christian Malcolm (200m and 4x100m relay, coach: Dan Pfaff), at his fourth Olympic Games; and debutants Brett Morse (discus, Vesteinn Hafsteinsson), Rhys Williams (400mH, Dan Pfaff), Dai Greene (400mH, Malcolm Arnold) and Gareth Warburton (800m, Darrell Maynard).

The selection of a high number of Welsh athletes - based on population ratios, Wales should have 2/3 athletes in Team GB - is testament to the good work carried in the Principality, and a good omen looking ahead to the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Here is when our athletes will be competing:
