Four Welsh Athletes will take part in the London 2012 Olympic Games as the final selection for the Team GB squad has been announced.
Discus thrower Brett Morse (coach: Veistenn Hafsteinsson) and freshly-crowned European 400m Hurdles Champion Rhys Williams (Dan Pfaff) will be joining automatic qualifiers Dai Greene (Malcolm Arnold) and Christian Malcolm (Dan Pfaff) in the team for London.
Unfortunately, 800m runner Gareth Warburton (Darrell Maynard) narrowly missed out on an Olympic spot.
The selection of four athletes is a huge achievement for Welsh Athletics and our sport community. It is particularly satisfactory to witness a doubling in the number of selected athletes, with only two Welsh representatives in Team GB at the last Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. Back then, Christian Malcolm and Philippa Roles were our representatives - and while veteran Malcolm will this year line up for his fourth Games, the emergence of a new generation of talent is assured.
The selection is also a good milestone on the way to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where Wales will aim to increase the already rich medal tally of Delhi 2010.
Welsh Athletics would like to congratulate the four selected athletes, their coaches and all the individuals who have supported them in their pursuit of a Team GB spot.
