Welsh International Chris Discombe won a bronze medal in the steeplechase at the Australian Championships in Melbourne on the 13th of April.

The James Thie coached athlete ran for the Les Croupiers club in Cardiff and for Cardiff AAC on the track before returning to his native Australia at the end of 2011 after a period of years living and training in Cardiff.

Chris improved his lifetime best to 8:52 in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing eight seconds behind the winner Peter Nowill who represented Australia at the Athens Olympics in 2004.

His achievement here can be added to his British Universities title from 2011 and his Welsh 5,000m title from 2010.
