Wales took an under 23 development team to the Leeds 10k on Sunday. Leeds is always a popular race amongst distance runners seeking fast times and is known for providing scores of personal best performances.

Due to unavailability Phil Matthews stepped into the team despite no longer being under 23, to support David Mountford of Deeside, Ricky Challinor of Liverpool and Derby’s David Westbury. Phil whose recent form has been fantastic was the first team member back in 30.03 agonisingly short of the 30 minute barrier but happy with what was still a huge pb. Next home was Dave Mountford improving his previous 30:59 to a new best of 30:52. Ricky fell just two seconds short of his pb set in Leeds in 2009 but was still happy with his 31:43 clocking. David Westbury completed the team in 32:21.
The first Welshman back was Jon Wills in 29:57. The Cardiff AAC trio of Joe Macdonald, Kevin Seaward and Alex Hains finished in 29:55, 30:13 and 30:26 respectively. Despite falling short of the illusive 30 minute barrier Kevin also left with a new pb.
Kate Roberts was Wales’ sole competitor in the ladies race and despite the foggy damp conditions also claimed a pb in 36:00.
