Welsh Athletics will send a strong cohort of Junior and Senior athletes to the Cross de Atapuerco cross country meeting in Burgos, Spain on Sunday, 11th November. The international meeting provides an excellent opportunity for Wales' athletes to experience high calibre competition ahead of the European Cross Country Trials in Liverpool on 24th November.
Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers; Kevin Evans) will head the senior men's team in Burgos, as he looks to follow up his 9th placed finish at the Commonwealth Half Marathon Championships on the 7th October. Joining Dewi are Cardiff AAC duo Dan Nash and James Hunt (Matt Clowes) - Dan finished 10th at the Cardiff Cross Challenge back in October, whilst James finished in 14th place, and both athletes will be looking for strong performances in the Welsh vest this weekend.
Cardiff's Charlotte Arter (Chris Jones) will make her competitive return to action after missing the Cardiff Cross Challenge as she continues to build up fitness after a recent injury. Arter will be joined by Commonwealth Half Marathon representative Jenny Nesbitt (Worcester; David Walker / Chris Jones), who recently finished 4th at the Athletics Ireland Cross Country Open in Dublin. Brighton's Beth Kidger (Joel Kidger) will look to build on her 14th placed finish at the Cardiff Cross Challenge, whilst Bronwen Jenkinson (Eryri) will hope to follow up her 22nd placed finish at the Cardiff Cross with another strong performance.
Jake Heyward (Cardiff AAC; James Thie) will head the Junior Men's team after his convincing victory at the Cardiff Cross Challenge last month, and will be joined by Swansea's Elliot Lawrence (Kevin Tobin) and Dominic Smith (Kevin Tobin) who were both in the top 10 (4th and 10th respectively) at the Cross Challenge in Cardiff.
In the Junior Women's team, Kiara Frizelle (Cardiff AAC; Chris Jones), who finished 11th in the Junior Women's race in Cardiff last month is joined by Deeside's Mia Roberts (John Messum), who was 13th in the same race, and Ashleigh Willis (Swansea Harriers; Kevin Tobin) who was one place behind Roberts, finishing 14th in Cardiff.
