Saturday 16th June 2018 – Lanzada, Italy.
Welsh Athletics will send strong boys and girls teams to the 13th edition of the WMRA International Youth Cup to be held in Lanzada, Italy on Saturday afternoon. The welsh squad is made up of youthful athletes who earned their places in the team by qualifying through the trial race at the Ras Barcud Coch in Devil’s Bridge last month.
The boys’ team includes Aberdare’s Joseph Reardon (who took victory in the trial race in early May), Max Dunford (St.David’s College, Llandudno), Cai La-Trobe Robert (Menai Track and Field) and Ifan Oldfield (Wrexham AC). Max is the only returning athlete from last year’s WMRA International Youth Cup, and the team will be relying on his experience from last year’s event to guide them to a strong performance on Saturday afternoon.
The girls’ team includes Deeside’s Gwyneth Parry (winner of the trial race at Ras Barcud Coch), Jenna Bagnall (Prestatyn), Emily Hanlon (Colwyn Bay AC) and Lois Lee (St.David’s College, Llandudno). All four women will be making their debut at the WMRA International Youth Cup on Saturday in Northern Italy.
The 13th WMRA International Youth Cup will be disputed on an uphill / downhill course in the village of Lanzada, and will be held on two loops of 2,150m – covering a total distance of 4,300m with an ascent/descent of 290m. Each team’s score will be determined by the aggregate of the places of it’s first 3 athletes across the finish line.
The girls’ race will start at 10 a.m (GMT) with the boys’ race starting at 10:45 a.m (GMT).
