Weekend round up 13.03.2017

England Athletics U15/U17 Combined Events Championships, Sheffield, March 11/12

20 junior combined eventers competed in Sheffield over the weekend which incorporated the Welsh Championships.

In the under 17 boys it was Harri Wheeler Sexton (Cardiff AAC) who took the win with 4345 points & Grace Morgan (Cardiff Archers) taking the win in the girl’s event with 3189 points.

Ben Hillman (Cardiff AAC) finished first in the under 15 event with 2911 points, on a national level Ben also took the silver medal. Caitlin Mapps (Cardiff Archers) was the victor in the girl’s competition with 2844 points.

European Throwing Cup, Gran Canaria, March 11/12

Congratulations to Cardiff Met student Adele Nicoll who has started off her 2017 outdoor campaign in great style finishing 3rd in the U23 Shot Put representing Great Britain at the European Throwing Cup this weekend in Gran Canaria.

Adele’s performance of 16.21m was her 3rd best performance ever and takes her a step closer in achieving her aim of competing at the European U23 Championships later this year and then the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Sally Peake (Birchfield) won the women’s contest with a height of 4.23 

Llanelli Half Marathon

The men’s field was dominated by the Swansea Harriers, who filled all 3 positions on the podium.  The title was claimed by Josh Griffiths with an extremely impressive time of 01:05:18 beating the course record by a massive 4 minutes and 30 seconds.  Club mate, Matthew Rees took second place completing the race in a time of 01:11:45, followed closely by Ian Harris who took third place in 01:11:55. 

The women’s course record was set by Carys Hughes of Cardiff Athletics Club securing the title in 01:21:21. Followed by Ellie Astins of Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club finishing with a time of 01:27:21 and Luticia Thomas (Amman Valley) claiming third place in 01:27:43.
