Welsh Athletes on the Podium at Commonwealth Youth Games

The Commonwealth Youth Games were held in Bahamas last week from the 18th-23rd of July with 5 Welsh Athletes representing Team Wales for Athletics.

It was a huge moment for Sarah Omoregie (Gareth Lease) of Cardiff AAC who clinched the Silver Medal in the Shot Put with a huge throw of 16.74 metres. This performance was even more incredible because it also broke the British under 18 Record.

James Tomlinson (Paul Jenson) of Pembrokeshire Harriers also won a silver medal with a big throw of 60.11 metres in the Discus. This was an impressive performance from Tomlinson who moved up to third on the Welsh all-time under 20 discus rankings this year after his performance in Carmarthen in April.

Bethan Moule (John Davies) of Neath Harriers produced a strong performance to finish 5th in the Javelin, it was a big second round throw of 44.27 metres which put her into 5th and was also 5 metres further than her first throw.

Cardiff AAC’s Naomi Reid (Phil Banning) narrowly missed out on making the 800m final, the Cardiff based athlete finished 4th in a tactical first heat with a time of 2:13.

Lauren Evans (Nigel Lewis) of Cardiff AAC was in action in the 100m hurdles but sadly did not progress through to the final. The talented multi-event athlete finished 7th in her heat with a time of 14.70.
