This weekend saw a number of Welsh Athletes producing strong performances in various meets and events around Europe.
Swansea Harrier Lemarl Freckleton (Coach: Andy Paul) finished in second and fourth place in the men’s 100 metre and 200 metres men’s A races, his times were 11.13 and 22.30.
Meeting Pro Athlé de Sotteville les Rouen
Birchfield Harrier Sally Peake (Coach: Scott Simpson) was in action in France on Friday, Peake finished in eight place in the women’s Pole Vault with a performance of 4.00 metres.
BMC Grand Prix- Loughborough
Matthew Harding of Colwyn Bay (Coach: Philip Oliver) finished in second place in a time of 1:51.30 in the men’s 800m B race. David Banwell-Cole (Coach: James Thie) was also in action in the same race, the Swansea Harrier finished in sixth place with a time of 1:55.49. Rachel McClay finished in sixth place in the women’s 800m B race with a time of 2:08.87. Naomi Reid (Coach: Phil Banning) finished in sixth place in the women’s 800m C race with a time of 2:10.92. Another of Phil Banning’s athletes was in action, Kiara Frizelle set a new personal best of 2:12.95 to finish sixth in the women’s 800m D race. Kyran Roberts (Coach: Delyth Brown) set a new personal best of 3:45.18 to finish third in the men’s 1500m A race. Jack Gooch of Swansea Harriers finished in seventh in the men’s 1500m B race in a time of 3:49.96. James Vincent (Coach: Phil Banning) set a new personal best of 3:53.89 in the men’s 1500m D race too. Kate Seary (Coach: Phil Banning) set a new personal best of 4:30.22 in the women’s 1500m B race to top of a great day for Team Banning.
English Schools track & Field
Bethan Rees (Mark Pinner) won the senior womens javelin final, the Welsh Senior Champion added another gold to her collection with a throw of 48.80. Elliot Odunaiya (Coach:Ian Robinson) finished in third place in the under 15 boys Javelin at the English Schools Championships in Birmingham, a throw of 51.94 metres secured Elliot with a bronze medal and also a personal best.
European Mountain Running Championships 2017- Slovenia
The European Mountain Running Championships were held inKamnik-Savinja Alpsin Slovenia on the weekend. Heidi Davies finished in ninth place in the junior women’s race, the Brecon athlete completed the course in 25:55.
Arena Games Hilversum
Owen Smith (Coach: Matt Elias) looked strong as he took the win the men’s 400m in Belgium, the Cardiff AAC athlete recorded a time of 47.67 in windy conditions.
