Over 50 delegates from across Wales were part of the 2017 Welsh Athletics Officials and Race Organisers Conference. There was something for everyone across the day which featured a range of education and training opportunities suitable for new and existing officials across both the Track & Field and Endurance pathways.
The morning session featured formal Risk Awareness, Health and Safety and a Level 1 Field Judge qualifications as well as Track & Field workshops regarding ‘Clerk of Course’ duties and ‘Stepping Up (Or Sitting Down): Experiences of a Level 4 Official’ delivered by vastly experienced officials Jane Dakin and Sue Maughn respectively.
Formally opening the conference was Sport Wales Director of Elite Performance Brian Davies OBE who shared his knowledge and experiences which set the tone perfectly for the afternoon elements. Throughout the afternoon, Welsh Athletics’ Darran Williams delivered a workshop Netbook Training for both Track and Field Officials workshop whilst Run Britains’ Nigel Rowe and legendary athlete turned Race Director Steve Brace shared tips, ideas and practical information with regard to staging and hosting events to a range of race and event providers from across Wales.
The Officials and Race Organisers Conference was the first event of the Welsh Athletics ‘Inspired by 2017’ programme. The programme will see a number of activities delivered throughout the year looking to capitalise on the excitement and interest that there will be across the sport throughout the year.
