Welsh Athletics is supporting 15 athletes to travel to a ten-day winter endurance camp in preparation for an important 2017 season on the road, mountains, cross country and track.
The supported athletes attending the camp in Aguilas, Spain include recent GB representatives Dewi Griffiths (coach: Kevin Evans, club: Swansea Harriers), Charlie Hulson (Steve Vernon, Sale Harriers), Georgina Outten (Andy Walling, Birchfield Harriers) and Cari Hughes (Walling, Menai), alongside European U18 Champion Jake Heyward (Paul Darney, Cardiff AAC), and 2012 Olympian, Gareth Warburton (Darrell Maynard, Cardiff AAC).
The athletes will be supported by coaches Delyth Brown, Arwyn Davies and Steve Vernon, with Welsh Athletics National Endurance Coordinator, Chris Jones travelling out later in the week . They will have access to sport science support with the help of Sport Wales practitioners and Welsh Athletics Physiotherapist Adam Rattenberry. It is hoped that if the camp is a success it will be replicated again in 2018 in the run up to the Commonwealth Games.
