Weekend Round Up 20.02.17

AIT Grand Prix, Athlone

Tom Marshall (James Thie) become the second man this winter to run a sub 4 minute mile. His time of 3.59.84 in finishing 3rd takes him to 5th on the all time list indoors. This is also the first time in Welsh Athletics' history that two Welsh athletes have ran a sub 4 minute mile indoors in the same year. 

Muller Grand Prix, Birmingham

Sally Peake (Scott Simpson) was just outside her seasons best, as she finished 7th with a height of 4.13m.

Huntington, USA

Mathew Harding (Crispin Backshall) had a breakthrough race running 1.50.93 in winning his race, a PB by nearly 4 seconds.

Australian Race Walking Championships

Bethan Davies (Andi Drake) secured the first Welsh A standard for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, as well as a qualifying standard for the IAAF World Athletics Championships as she finished 6th in a time of 1.35.47.

BUCS Championships, Sheffield

A large contingent of Welsh students competed at the annual British Universities Championships. The highlights of the weekend included a superb run by Hannah Brier (Steve Fudge), her winning time of 7.31 seconds was a new championship best performance, and more importantly a new Welsh Junior Record. There was also a clear victory for Melissa Courtney (Mark Pauley) in the women’s 1500m clocking a time of 4.20.01, while Amy Odunaiya (Dave Norton) picked up a bronze medal with a time of 24.94.
