BMC Grand Prix- Stretford
The final British Milers Grand Prix meet of 2017 was held in Stretford on Saturday with a number of strong performances from Welsh Athletes.
Alex Coomber (Arwyn Davies) put in a strong performance to finish 2nd in the Men’s 800m A race. The Cardiff AAC and reigning Welsh Champion clocked an impressive time of 1:48.46 to just miss out on a new personal best.
Izzy Parry-Jones (Darrell Maynard) looked strong as she stormed to victory in the Women’s 800m C race. The Cwmbran runner who also competes for Swansea Harriers set a new personal best of 2:09.70.
Stephen Morris (James Thie) of Cardiff AAC ended his summer season with a new seasons best of 3:57.24 in the Men’s 1500m D race. The Cardiff based runner has had an impressive year with some strong displays at the recent World Para Athletics Championships in London.
Gareth Griffiths (James Thie) of Tipton Harriers & Cardiff AAC broke 4 minutes for the first time over the 1500m distance. The Cardiff Met Student finished 2nd in the Men’s 1500m E race with a time of 3:58.39.
Guy Smith (George Edwards) of Swansea Harriers obliterated his personal best by 7 seconds in the Men’s 3000m A race. The Swansea Harrier clocked an impressive time of 8:15.29 to finish in 6th position.
Rosie Edwards (Dennis Russell) set a new track personal best in the women’s 10,000m A race. The Rotherham AC runner finished in 4th position with a time of 34:31.05.
IAAF Diamond League- Birmingham
The Alexander Stadium was packed on Sunday for a star-studded Diamond League fixture in Birmingham. Only one Welsh Athlete was in action at this meet, this was Olivia Breen (Aston Moore. The City of Portsmouth athlete finished in 5th place in the T37/38 Women’s 100m with a time of 13.71.
British Athletics League- Various Venues
Cardiff AAC & Swansea Harriers were both successful in their bids for promotion to the Premiership on Sunday with the two clubs finishing 1st & 2nd respectively. It was a strong performance from both clubs, Click Here for the full report
Ben Gregory (Aston Moore) competed in the premiership Division representing Birchfield Harriers. The Multi-Eventer set a new personal best of 55.46 to finish 5th in the Men’s 400m Hurdles. Ben was also in action again to finish 2nd in the Men’s Pole Vault with 4.98 metres and then he also set a new seasons best of 12.54 metres in the Triple Jump.
Gareth Winter (Zane Duquemin) put in a dominant display to win the Men’s Shot Put in the Premiership Division. The Sheffield & Dearne athlete threw 16.68 metres to take the win. Gareth also finished 7th in the Men’s Discus and 8th in the Hammer Throw.
Welsh Junior Championships- Wrexham
The Welsh Junior Track & Field Championships were held at Queensway Stadium in Wrexham on the 19th-20th of August. There were a number of impressive performances from the rising stars of Welsh Athletics, Click Here for the full report.
