Following an advertisement and interview process in 2016, Welsh Athletics are pleased to announce that Mike Delaney will take up the role of Commonwealth Games Team Manager for the 2018 Games in the Gold Coast*.
Mike brings with him a a wealth of experience, having acted as Team Manager to the Great Britain team at four World Championships and two Olympic Games, Mike has been the Team Manager to Team Wales at two previous Commonwealth Games. Mike will work closely with the Welsh Athletics Coaching and Performance team over the next 12 months in the run in to the Games to ensure that the athletes are provided with all the appropriate opportunities to deliver their best possible performance at the Games.
Head of Coaching and Performance, Scott Simpson said,
“I am delighted that Mike is joining the team to offer his extensive skills and experience to those that are already in place – I think he compliments the team perfectly and will be an invaluable asset to Team Wales in both the build-up to and at the Games”.
The Welsh team is nominated to Sport Wales on the 1st December 2017, before the final Team Wales announcement is made on the 22nd January 2018. The Welsh Athletics cohort departs the UK on the 12th March 2018 for their preparation camp on the Sunshine Coast, before moving into the Village on the 4th April for the Opening Ceremony, with the Athletics programme starting on the 8th.
*All final selections are made by the Team Wales selection panel in January 2018.
