Welsh Athletics Limited Track and Field Selection Policy
The Welsh Athletics teams for the majority of Representative and Internationals fixtures will consist of one athlete per event.
Selections will be made approximately two/three weeks prior to the fixture by the Welsh Athletics Track & Field Team Selection Committee.1
Welsh Athletics will look to select the strongest team that is available for each fixture.
Athletes who have achieved the Selection Guidelines (SG) and who have demonstrated consistent high-level form will be given serious consideration.
The selection process will prioritise athletes who:
1) Have achieved the Selection Guidelines (SG) in the ‘Year of Competition’ and have demonstrated consistent high-level form through the period.
2) Are developing towards achieving the Selection Guidelines and contributing to Welsh Athletics and Great Britain International Representation.
*Achievement of the Welsh Athletics International Selection Guidelines does not guarantee selection.
The qualification period to achieve the ISG will be eighteen months prior to the fixture.
Whilst every effort will be made to take full teams (depending on the events Welsh Athletics have chosen to focus on) to represent Wales at all fixtures, the selection policy will not seek to fill places simply because a guideline has been achieved. The selection of junior athletes by the Track and Field Selection Committee will be given serious consideration with regard to the development of the individual athlete.
Selected Athletes will be informed by letter
