RACE REPORT
There were some very encouraging performances from the Welsh youngsters at the Susa event, with strong opposition from the Italians, Russians, Slovenians, French, as well as the British and Irish teams, the races were run in very hot conditions with temperatures reaching the 35 degrees centigrade mark, development athlete Sara Livett ran well to finish 5th in her U15 race, while the boys development athlete Calum Muskett went off to quickly in his race, and paid for it when he reached the first hill, though he did well to finish 13th and will learn from the experience.
In the 16/17 year age group race, the Welsh girls team of Aneura Phillips (left) who ran well to finish 6th, with Angharad Davies close behind in 10th and Catrin Lewis 25th finished 3rd, while England won the team gold.
The 16/17 year old Welsh boys team of; Michael kallenberg, who has shown a remarkable improvement since running in this event last year as a development athlete finished 7th, a full two minutes and 10 seconds quicker than his time of last year, with Dave Mountford 22nd and Matthew Richards 36th, the boys team were placed 6th.
Overall a great learning experience for all the athletes, which should prove very beneficial for them in their development.
All the Welsh athletes conducted themselves impeccably and were worthy ambassadors for the country.
