Mrs Eileen Haskins has been actively involved in athletics in Wales for over 3 decades.  She was involved in the re-establishment of Colwyn bay Athletics Club back in the mid 70’s and initially coached the juniors.   After progressing through the coaching qualifications, she eventually headed up the sprints training group at the club, and over several years in the mid and late 80’s she helped produce numerous Welsh Champions and helped Colwyn Bay AC top the Welsh League on a number of occasions.  She was also actively involved in the club committee during this golden era.

During this period she also started officiating in field events, and similarly made her way through the qualification levels.  Over the years she has officiated at events throughout Wales at all levels as well as with disability events. Over the past few years, and to this day, despite undergoing treatment for cancer, she still officiates at events.

As a youngster she competed as a youngster for Cheshire Schools and competed for a couple of years as a veteran before concentrating on the coaching and officiating.

The MBE is also for her services to the community in North Wales including work with the WRVS – ranging from delivering meals on wheels, assisting in the hospital with refreshments, right through to eventually heading up the emergency planning in North Wales for WRVS.  During this period she was heavily involved in assisting with providing assistance to local people during the floods in Towyn in 1990.

She previously volunteered one day a week with a special school and assisted with sports.  She currently volunteers with St Josephs Primary School in North Wales one day a week – reading, sports, general assistance.  She is a volunteer usher at the North Wales Theatre, she undertakes work with local parish church, took in a foster son for 7 years…………and probably a lot more!!
