Information and opportunity for all Endurance coaches in Wales
All endurance coaches in Wales are invited to Rhayader, Mid Wales on Saturday 4th October 2008 for a day of discussion, debate and lectures with Tim Hutchins.
The day will be introduced by Steve Brace, where there will be opportunities to discuss the current state of endurance in Wales and the UK, and planning a way forward.
Leading Welsh athletes from cross country, road and mountain running will be invited, and all endurance coaches level 2 and above will be formally invited in the coming days, however level 1 coaches with an interest in endurance are very welcome.
Programme for the day
10:00 am Meet at Rhayader Leisure centre for an easy run 3-4 miles on the Elan Valley road/pathway with showers available
10:45 am Refreshments and book in
11:00 am Introductions - outline of the day
11:15 am Session 1
· Steve Brace to outline/present the current position of endurance in Wales/UK
· Tim’s thought on where we are and what approach is required for the current and next generation of endurance athletes.

· Planning the training for athletes to cope with today’s standards, pressures and competition schedules

Travel to Elan Village, under the Dam - 3 miles away.
Some athletes may wish to jog/run over as a warm up
Variety of sessions offered (subject to number of athletes attending)
- Hill reps - up to 800m on grass or tarmac
- long efforts 1200m approx - variable terrain
- Grass efforts - variable on flat even grass - up to 600m
- Mountain training run
- Easy flat run - alongside the reservoir
4:00pm Coaches sessions - Elan Visitor Centre
- Thoughts, reflections and the way forward for endurance in Wales;
athletes to drift in as they finish their warm down/sessions
5:00pm Depart - Showers available at Rhayader Leisure Centre if required

Event: Mile, 5,000m and Cross Country
Achievements:
- First sub 4 Mile at 19, in 1978 (3:57.8); ran around 13-14 sub-4's in total.
- Ran for England in four successive Commonwealth Games (78-82-86-90)
- Ran for GB in three successive European Champs (82-86-90)
- Won English National CC twice (only ran it twice!) '83 & '86
- BEST RESULTS: 2nd World CC '84 / 4th Olympic 5,000 '84 / 3rd Commonwealth Games 5,000 '86 / 3rd European Championships 5,000 '86 / 2nd World CC '89.
- Best Half Marathon 64 minutes in 1990 (GNR)
Accomplished coach, athlete coordinator at the London Marathon and Eurosport athletics commentator where he has just returned from Beijing
The Leisure Centre sits just alongside the main A470 route which runs directly through the centre of Rhayader.
Please note that there is a charge in the Leisure Centre car park. Free parking is available across the road and elsewhere in the town.
