Cross Country Fixtures
Here is a summary of the major fixtures for Welsh cross country runners together with an availability sheet. Please return the latter to help us plan team selection for the season.
Details will be published on the Welsh Athletics website where any late updates should appear, so please check.
Due to the proximity to Christmas there will be no Welsh squad to the Brussels Cross this year, although private groups may go. There is also no autumn Endurance weekend at Ogmore. There will be a development squad (Under 17s) nominated to take part in the Liverpool UK Challenge but any athletes who decline because of clash with League fixtures will not be penalised.
To assist you, note that selection for Belfast, Celtic Nations (Edinburgh) and Cardiff Challenge will primarily be based on the Welsh Inter-region championships in Cardiff in December. If you are a ”Master” you need to enter that age category “open” championship even if you have been selected for your region. For all other age categories, if for any reason, you are not in a Regional team ( eg England based) you can apply to the Welsh Athletics office (Peter Stafford/Derek Osborne) for consideration for “wild card” entry.
Selection for the later season matches will primarily consider performances in the Welsh Championships in Swansea in February, (or in the specific case of the President’s cup, Dublin – jointly with Welsh Schools after their Champs.)
