Good news flocking to Welsh Athletics

The last few weeks brought a number of happy news and good stories to welshathletics.org. As the outdoor season proceeds towards its climax, Welsh athletes all over the world (literally!) have been putting in some very good performances.

The South Wales Championships, held in the stunning new Cardiff International Sports Stadium, saw the welcome return of Rhys Williams after a long time on the sidelines due to injury. Carys Parry and Laura Douglas were also involved in the Regional Championships (South and North Wales respectively), the hammer throw duo setting excellent results: Carys threw a 65.28m, while Laura set a new PB with 64.16m.

Brett Morse proved he really is on fire this season – his 59.52m discus throw at the BUCS Championships a new PB and a great promise for the rest of the season. All the way down to California, instead, Katia Lannon returned to action after injury with a 5302 score in the heptathlon.

One of the best stories of the last weeks, however, comes from closer to home. Ben Gregory smashed the U20 decathlon Welsh record with his new score of 7058 points – just shy of the score required to qualify to the European Junior Championships.
