Welsh Athletics Ltd will launch an athlete-coach development programme focussed around the three indoor athletics centres, Deeside, Swansea and Cardiff. The Athletics Development Centres (ADC’s) will run a weekly athletics development programme, assisting the development of the athlete-coach pair and compliment the delivery at the clubs.
The Athletics Development Centres will operate on an open door policy for 11 to 15 year olds; the weekly sessions will operate on a three term basis, beginning in autumn 2008. The weekly programme will focus upon the development of athletic foundations linked closely to the 5 rings model (Movement Skills, Conditioning, Performance Factors, Lifestyle and Technical/Tactical). Coaches, parents and teachers will be able to observe the weekly ADC sessions and will also have the opportunity to attend regional event workshops throughout the year to assist in their personal development.
