It is with great regret that Welsh Athletics announce the passing away of Eileen Haskins MBE.
As a youngster she competed as a youngster for Cheshire Schools and competed for a couple of years as a veteran before concentrating on the coaching and officiating.
Mrs Eileen Haskins had been actively involved in athletics in Wales for over 3 decades. She was involved in the re-establishment of Colwyn Bay Athletics Club back in the mid 70’s and initially coached the juniors. She eventually headed up the sprints training group at the club, and over several years in the mid and late 80’s she helped produce numerous Welsh Champions and helped Colwyn Bay AC top the Welsh League on a number of occasions. She was also actively involved in the club committee during this golden era.
During this period she also started officiating in field events, and similarly made her way through the qualification levels. She went on to officiated at events throughout Wales at all levels as well as with disability events, and over the past few years, despite undergoing treatment for cancer, she continued to officiate.
In 2007 Eileen was awarded the MBE for her services to athletics, and to the community of North Wales, where she was an active volunteer with the WRVS, special schools and the theatre.
She will be dearly missed by the athletics fraternity in Wales
Eileen was married to Cyril (above) and a mother of 4

Mrs Eileen Haskins M.B.E. - A personal view – Stuart Hodson
It was with great sadness that I had the news today of the death of Eileen.
The world is a sadder place today for her passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to Cyril and her family.
When I first officiated in Wales in 1999, I knew no one and felt nervous.
I went to my first event to be met by this smiling cherub who introduced me to everyone and mothered me all day.
I looked forward to seeing that sparkle and wonderful smile every time I came to Wales.
I will miss it so much along with other officials and athletes.
What a wonderful lady.
What an inspiration.
Through everything, she never gave up.
God must have had a greater need of you.
If I ever have the luck to get there, I know that she will have the place organised.
Her funeral will take place on Tuesday 1st July in Old Colwyn.
