Welsh Junior League

Welsh Junior League fixtures came to a climax on Saturday at Newport and Wrexham respectively, North Wales fixtures are due via email and will be published as soon as they arrive.

 

The West and East divisions finished in an exiting day of track and field competition with clubs fighting for Cup and Plate final places, Swansea Harriers took the West division title for the first time in several years scoring 23 lge points, from Carmarthen Harriers, who finished with 22 lge points, the third place spot changed hands several times during the day but eventually went to Bridgend AC finishing on 17 lge points, 1 in front of Pembrokeshire Harriers who had to settle for 4th place, Aberdare and Neath qualify for the platefrom the West division, Llanelli came so close to causing an upset, but with so many of their athletes on holiday they were unable to finish in 5th place where they would have taken the host of the Plate final Neath Harriers place.

 

The East division was more of a straight race with two clubs Cardiff 24pts, who took the title from Cwmbran Harriers 21pts, it was then up to who takes the third spot, Barry  Vale Harriers were in pole position to attend their first ever Cup final, but it wasn't to be and they finished in 4th spot with 15pts, 1 behind hosts for the day Newport Harriers who accumilated 16pts, with the clubs finishing in this order it is the first time in several years Brecon AC host of the Cup final will not be there they could only manage a Plate final spot, Rhondda came 6th in the division making the trio from that divison to compete in Neath.
