PUMA was today (January 23rd) confirmed as the new scottishathletics kit sponsor in a three year contract which will support Scottish athletes and international teams through to the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010 – and ultimately provide a platform for success in Glasgow 2014.

Former European Championships 4 x 400m relay gold medallist Brian Whittle (see notes to editor) and 2006 Commonwealth team members Hayley Ovens and Susan Partridge joined rising Scottish athletics star Eilidh Child for the announcement of the new scottishathletics and PUMA partnership at Hampden Park in Glasgow, alongside what will become the 2014 athletics stadium finish line.

Gordon Hood, scottishathletics Marketing Manager said: “We are thrilled to announce this new sponsorship with PUMA. Like us, they cover the full range of participation, from jogscotland’s recreational runners to elite track and field athletes. The product ranges are first class and I am sure that our fashionable young members will also be keen to access some of the cutting edge fashion lines.”

Richard Callaway, Teamsports Marketing Manager at PUMA UK commented: “We’re delighted to be entering into this partnership with scottishathletics and jogscotland. As a brand, we’re always keen to support athletes and teams and feel that this is an ideal opportunity to do so, as well as increasing the brand’s exposure in Scotland.”

Eilidh Child, Scottish 400m hurdles champion and 5th in the European under-23 Championships in 2007 added: “Looking ahead to the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and an Olympic and Commonwealth Games double on home soil in 2012 and 2014, it’s re-assuring to know our kit requirements are being managed by a brand as well respected as PUMA. As well as providing high-performance training and competition kit, the PUMA apparel is fashionable and multi-purpose.”
