Speaker’s Biography
Karen Reid (BSc. Nutrition Hons SRD)
Karen Reid has almost 20 years’ experience working as an accredited sports dietitian at an elite level in sport. She is a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA), and a Committee member of the BDA Dietitians in Sport and Exercise Nutrition (DISEN) group, as well as the British Olympic Association Sports Nutrition Advisory Group.
Karen was the Regional Lead Nutritionist for the EIS in London for four years and has provided performance nutrition support and consultancy services across a variety of sports and organisations, including UK Athletics, Welsh Rugby Union, Elite Cymru athletes, England Women's Rugby Football Union, England Hockey Association.
In 2003, Karen launched her company Performance Food Ltd and developed the innovative company website www.performancefood.co.uk and is recommended by UK Sport as a source of independent advice on food alternatives to supplements in their new supplements educational document Sports Supplements and the Associated Risks. Karen knows what it takes to help elite athletes maximise their potential to perform, and draws on many years of experience designing sport specific nutritional strategies for both teams and individuals across a range of different sporting disciplines. Her presentation will demonstrate practically how to use the optimal balance of foods to enhance sports performance.
