Top young athletes continued to smash Welsh Records and Best Performances.

With the new Indoor Season just getting underway two of our top young athletes continued to smash Welsh Records and Best Performances.

In the UWIC Grand Prix at Cardiff on the 8th December, Brett Morse (Cardiff AAC) beat the current Welsh Indoor U20 Shot Record of 15.94 (held by Mathew Evans) on no less than five of his 6 putts. Using the 6kg shot, his series started with 15.03, followed by 16.01 (NewWR), 16.21 (NewWR), 16.09, 16.48 (NewWR) and 16.01.

Meanwhile in Scotland on the same day, The Schools' Pentathlon International took place at  the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow. The winner of the U18 Boys competition, representing Welsh Schools, was David Guest (Bridgend). The competition consisted of the 60m Hurdles, Shot, 200m, Long Jump and 800m. Competing against athletes from England, Scotland and Ireland, David set the top mark in 3 of the events whilst he turned in the 2nd fastest time in the 800m and the 5th furthest putt in the Shot.

His score of 3856 was 347 points ahead of the second placed competitor and 364 points ahead of his arch Welsh rival Ben Gregory, who on this occasion was representing English Schools and who finished in third place.

David broke his own Welsh U17 Best Performance set in the same competition last year by 446 points.

The Welsh U18 Boys team consisting of  David Guest, Antoine Woodman, Alex Cooke and Jamie Gutteridge were well on course to win the team competition but unfortunately Jamie Gutteridge was unable to contest the 800m and his points for the four events he had completed were not counted in the overall team score.

Both new Records/Best Performances are subject to ratification by the Welsh Athletics Track & Field Committee.
