The first junior league match of 2008 took place last Sunday at Swansea, the club hosting it;s first junior league match in 9 years since the demise of the Morfa Stadium. The weather was great for athletics warm with a breeze, and was ideal for breaking records as we had 8 individual records broken during the day.
Brett Morse - Cardiff AAC U20M, literally had a field day, he broke the Shot Put (6.0kg) record he set of 15.32m in 2007 by adding a metre to his distance putting 16.34m, also with this put broke the Welsh Record set by Mathew Evans - Carmarthen Harriers of 16.26m, Brett later went on to smash records he set at league and national level in the discus (1.75kg), the lge record was 54.92m and the national record was 55.65m with a throw of 58.37m.
Rhiannyd Llewellyn - Brigend AC U15G, the rising Pole Vault star also broke league and Welsh record , carrying on from her records set indoor this year Rhiannyd took both records set by Emma Gould - Brecon AC, back in 2005 of 3.11m.
Other records broken were league records, Rhys Hodnett - Cardiff AAC U17M Hammer, Rhys broke the long standing record set by Glenn Williams of Cardiff AAC's 54.80m by sending the hammer to 55.58m, Elinor Lewis - Cardiff AAC Pole Vault equalled her league record set last year of 3.25m, Luke Morgan - Cardiff AAC U20M - 400m Hurdles broke his club mate Richard Chappell's record of 58.5s with 58.0s. Laura Davies - Llanelli AC equalled the record set by Emily Mitchell - Carmarthen Harriers in 2003 of 13.2s, also Dafydd Walters - Carmarthen Harriers U20 110m Hdl, broke Kris Jones - Newport Harriers 15.8s record set in 2003 with 14.9s
